The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is one of the go-to names in the large van class, rivalling the Ford Transit, VW Crafter and Fiat Ducato for durability and load carrying capacity. In terms of design the Sprinter Mk3 has slender new headlights, a more upright windscreen and blistered wheel arches to distinguish it from previous versions. The Sprinter is the only large van to offer a V6 diesel engine and with new FWD versions you can now carry up to 50kg more than the standard RWD variants.
As before the Sprinter comes in four wheelbases and six body styles. The panel van has a load area that features a large, flat, plastic-trimmed floor, plus a plywood lining is standard across the range. The box wheel arches have been strengthened and are able to carry as much weight as the load floor itself, while standard and high-roof variants are offered. Mercedes has gone to town with the new Sprinter's load carrying ability. With four body lengths to choose from for the RWD model and three lengths of FWD, plus high-roof options for both the RWD and FWD panel vans, there should be a Sprinter model to suit every need. Maximum load volume in the largest panel van is 17 cubic metres, and there's a maximum payload weight of 3,175kg.
